The Access Card (or Key Card) is an inventory item in Duke Nukem 3D and its ports.
Description
Edit
The Access Card is used on an Access Card Panel in order to unlock it. This is turn will cause something to happen, such as a door being unlocked or part of the environment moving.
There are three colours the Access Card comes in:
- Blue
- Yellow
- Red
Only one Access Card of a given colour may be carried at once. This is not noticeable in the main game, as there is no situation where the player is able to pick up an Access Card whilst already holding one of the same colour. However, some user maps may be designed in such a way that this fact is revealed.
When an Access Card is used on an Access Card Panel, all linked Access Card Panels are unlocked at the same time, meaning the Access Card itself only needs to be used once. As such, the Access Card is disposed of once it is used.
Trivia
Edit
- The colour of the Access Card depends on its palette colour. It is therefore possible for some user maps to implement additional Access Cards, such as green, white and black.
- In Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, Duke comments that he hates looking for Access Cards.
The Access Card in other games
Edit
- In Duke Caribbean: Life's A Beach, the Access Card is renamed the Credit Card.
- In Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, there is one Access Card to find per level (along with one trapped babe). This Card must be found and used on the forcefield-protected door to continue.
