For the Duke Nukem 3D enemy, see Assault Commander (DN3D).

The Assault Commander is an enemy in Duke Nukem Forever.

Description[]

The Assault Commander is a flying enemy (fatass blob) that fires rockets from its rectum while constantly moving. In addition, it can use its blades as a weapon by charging towards the player, making them deadly in melee as well as ranged combat. They also have the ability to instantly mutate humans into Pig Cops, using the weapon on one of their arms (though this is mainly a scripted event).

Combat Analysis[]

Player should stay on the move at all times; there are plenty of reasons to dodge the Assault Commander. The RPG Launcher from it's butt will continuously fire at Duke. Once in while it will take a break, fire up it's spinning blades and launch itself right at the player; this will not only damage Duke but knock his butt onto the ground. Not a big issue if they player is on their own, but if there are other enemies nearby, this can cause Duke to get easily surrounded. Despite it's physically imposing size, it is surprisingly fast at slapping Duke with a melee attack if the player gets too close.

Heavy firepower is normally required and recommended to deplete it's large amount of health. Devastator, RPG, Railgun are all effective weapons. There are a few shortcuts available to help get the job done.

  • The Assault Commander is vulnerable to headshots, but this requires the player to be in a good position where they are not taking constant damage; the Assault Commander is always on the move, after all and it's head is often protected by the rest of it's body given it tends to float well-above the player.
  • One shot from the Shrink Ray. combined with a Pipe Bomb will allow the player to quickly blow one up.
  • Freeze Ray in 3D-mode is an excellent weapon to use given it does not move around the room quickly.
  • The final Assault Commander in the The Doctor Who Cloned Me can be expanded by the Expander (DNF), but not outright killed by it; the player will still have to finish it off with conventional weaponry.

The Lady Killer: Part 3[]

This Assault Commander serves as a mini-boss by the time the player reaches the building's front entrance. When it busts into the room from the roof above, it will mutate two nearby EDF soldiers into Pig Cops armed with shotguns. They will kill the nearby trooper that managed to avoid being mutated, then turn their attention on Duke.

When the player first encounters the Assault Commander in The Lady Killer: Part 3, they will have access to limited arsenal and each one has their own advantages:

M1911 Tricky, but not impossible to pull off headshots from a greater distance for bonus damage.
AT Laser No reloading involved, but may need to access the EDF Crate several times.
Shotgun Excellent close-up damage, will probably require the least amount of shots.
Laser Trip Mine
(Newly acquired).
These can be dropped around the room while it floats around and runs into the lasers.

Disposing of the Pigcops first should be the player's first priority. Sticking them with Trip Mines or hit them with nearby garbage cans for quick kills (A well-lined up can will kill them both with one throw). From there, it's a matter of using preferred weapons while running aruond the room. A couple Beers are also in the room and can help the player shrug off a large amount of damage if they are needed. Otherwise, stick to evading attacks, returning fire and it will go down eventually.
